Alex Garcia Mendoza of Cuba won bronze at the Pan American Games in Toronto as heavyweight. In 2016 he won bronze at the Grand Prix Havana. He won bronze as well at the PanAm Championships in 2015. In Cuba he won the Jose Ramon tournament and various Cuban championships medals. He finished fifth at the Olympic Games in Rio. In 2017 he won a silver medal at the Grand Prix in Cancun. He took a bronze medal at the IJF Masters in St. Petersburg in 2017. Seized gold at the Belgian Open in Visé in 2017.
