CDA frontrunner Pieter Heerma was a former judoka who won two Dutch Junior Championships in 1996 and 1997 as a heavyweight +95kg. He practised at famous Kenamju judo club in Haarlem and Ryu Amsterdam. He participated at the Junior World Championships in 1996 in Porto where he finished fifth. He won European junior bronze in 1997 Ljubljana. Athletes of his generation are Olympians Edith Bosch and Dennis van der Geest.
