Austrian judo coach Ernst Hofer passes away

Austrian judo coach Ernst Hofer passed away at the age of 52. Hofer was a loyal coach who was successful as an athlete for 20 years. “Ernstl” won the Swiss Open in Basel in 1996 and World Cup in Sofia in 1998 U66kg. He competed at the 1997 World Championships in Paris and European Championships in 1994, 1997 and 1998.

Hofer captured two national titles in 1997 and 2007 won but countless national medals in 20 years time. As a coach he was even more influential with his club Raika Mühlviertel. He was among the national coach team of Austria for years. He worked on talent such as the women U21 2013-2017 and youth U18 2018-2020. He passed away in November 2023 after a long illness.
