Israel's junior women posted mixed results yesterday in the first day of the U-20 World Judo Championship in Budapest. Chen Bushari (U52kg) ended her participation in the tournament after winning her first fight against a German opponent, but losing thereafter to a competitor from Hungary.

Tania Simantov, 17, who is fighting in the up to 48 kilogram class, needs a single victory tomorrow morning to have a chance to fight for a medal later in the day. Simantov won her first two fights yesterday by ippon, but then lost her third and the chance to move through to the semifinal.

She did, however, win her repechage bout and will face off today against a French opponent for a chance to go through to the fight for the bronze.

Alice Schlesinger, 16, who fights in the up to 57 kilogram category also started the day well, recording two victories by ippon. She then lost on a technicality in her third fight, before winning her repechage bout and earning a place in the bronze medal clash.
