At 36 years old, Celita Schutz (USA) is the oldest competitor in judo. An interesting contrary in the American team as Ronda Rousey (17) is the youngest of the whole field of competitors in judo. Teammate Nicole Kubes is 17 as well but six months older than Rousey.

The career of the experienced Schutz who dominated US women’s judo for years started in 1984 already.

The ‘veteran’ became third at her first US senior Champions. The winner was Olympic teammate Ronda Rousey's mother, 1984 champion AnnMaria Burns-Rousey.

The youngster of this year’s Olympic edition can be the successor of her mother who was the only female World Champion the United States ever had.

Rising star Rousey is followed in detail by her older sister Maria who writes for Sports Illustrated and was responsible for the biographies of the American fighters.
