Austrian coach icon Gerhard Dorfinger passes away

Austrian judoka Gerhard Dorfinger passed away at the age of 73 years on Sunday. Gerhard was an icon of the Austrian judo sport and one of the most successful judo trainers in Austria. Gerhard Dorfinger was coach of Ludwig Paischer, Marjan Fabian, Thomas Schleicher, Florian Rinnerthaler, Roland Stegmüller and more top athletes in Austria.

His daughters Karin and Christine were successful athletes as well. In the past he worked with Josef Rosenlechner, Roswitha Hartl, Alexandra Rinnerthaler and more icons from the past and Dorfinger was seen as one of the architects of Austrian judo.

Dorfingers club Strasswalchen (now Judo Union Flachgau) had many successes during his term and some foreign athletes like Marjan Fabian lived in Austria to train under the guidance of Dorfinger. Gehrard was a straightforward person and a good sports colleague who lived for judo and the athletes. He is seen as one of the big sports personalities. The Sporthall in Straßwalchen ist called "Gerhard-Dorfinger-Halle"

Dorfinger spent most of his day in the Judo-centre and sportshall. He is considered one of most successful coaches in Austria.
