In a spectacular final at the German Championships Dimitri Peters defeated Karl-Richard Frey. The fire in Peters in not yet over, it's burning inside and he wants to retire with a highlight, this year in Budapest.

The 2012 Olympic medallist was in a tough battle with Frey for an Olympic ticket in Rio and he gave everything, but Peters was ranked 7th, Frey 5th, still Peters is extremely dangerous for any opponent with his ne-waza speciality.
The 32-year-old Peters , who has been living in Hanover for more than ten years, now wants to give his career a last boost. "At the World Championships in Budapest in August. I want to stop at the peak of my performance."
The decision to stop after this year wasn't easy. "My heart still depends on Judo. But the right moment has come to stop doing judo. I am proud that, thanks to my passion, I have traveled all over the world and achieved so much."
Peters was overall quite lucky in regard to injuries. One time my meniscus was torn or a few shoulder straps. Meanwhile, Peter's interests have shifted. The sporting success is no longer in the first place. "I have sacrificed a lot for my career. Most do not see that. So I had little time for my family or friends." Peters is father of two children and wants to spend more time with them in the near future. Careerwise he will quit at the German Bundeswehr. "I applied to the professional fire brigade in Hanover," says Peters, who bought a mountain bike and tries other sports as well such as diving. And my son plays handball. I would also like to try it, "says Peters, who wants to snap into all sports."
After the World Cup, he will not stop immediately with Judo. First he finishes the Bundesliga season. "I can also imagine my knowledge as a coach to pass on to children." Perhaps he will come back some day to the city where it all began, Hanover and visit his old club.

So far he won Olympic bronze, two bronze world medals in 2013 and 2015. Almost each year he wins a World Tour event and this year started well with a warm up and his sixth German title U100kg.
