Former judoka Sezer Huysuz elected as Turkish Judo Federation President

The Turkish Judo Federation congress have chosen former top judoka Sezer Huysuz as its new president. At the ordinary general congress in Ankara on 22th October Huysuz won the elections with two candidates. Huysuz is elected for a term of four years. Former president Fatih Uysal who led the federations since 2008, decided not to continue his duty.

Sezer Huysuz is worldwide known as one of the best Turkish judoka around.  He represented Turkey at the Olympics Games in 2008 and 2012. He finished fifth at two World Championships in 2007 and 2009 and competed at five World Championships and multiple European Championships. He was multiple Turkish champion and won the Super World Cup in Moscow (the former Grand Slam of Russia) and World Cups in Tallinn, Apia, Balkan Championships and European Cup in Istanbul. He fought against great judoka such as Ono, Van Tichelt, Ungvari and brothers, Tatalashvili, Uchishiba, Pina, Arencibia, Elmont, Bilodid, Darbelet, Guilheiro, Isaev, Kedelashvili, Vazagashvili, Uematsu and hundreds of opponents. He retired in October 2012 after taking a medal at the European Club Championships, held in Istanbul.

The other candidate was Muhammet Celik, who took active duties in Turkish Federation’s committees in national and international roles.

Sezer Huysuz was the winner of a close contest with 125 votes against 123 for Muhammet Celik. So each vote was important for the presidency. The election was held in pretty gentle way. Both candidates congratulated each other and thanked to the all commissioners for their votes.

Huysuz held a short speech after his election and gave a token of appreciation to former president Fatih Uysal due to his hard work for Turkish judo since 2008.
