Big variety of winning nations at African Open Casablanca

Fourteen different winning nations this weekend at the African Open in Casablanca. On Sunday two gold medals for the African nations. Host nation Morocco won the gold medal for women U70kg, Assmaa Niang booked her third World Cup victory ever. In Casablanca she defeated Chantal Wright of the USA in a pool with just five women.

Abderrahmame Benamadi of Algeria captured the victory in the category U90kg. In the final he defeated Azeri Mammadali Mehdiyev. It was not the only medal for Algeria this weekend. Lyes Bouyacoub took bronze U100kg where Benjamin Fletcher (GBR) won the gold medal. He won his fourth World Cup and again proved to be good in Africa. Bouyacoub won his match against Zlatko Kumric (CRO).

In the men’s heavyweight category Ushangi Kokauri won gold against Cedric Medeuf.

The first gold medal of the day went to Hungary,. Attila Ungari defeated Aslan Lappinagov of Russia in the final U81kg. An interesting fight for Italy was the victory for Matteo Marconcini against Antonio Ciano.

Kaouthar Ouallal won bronze U78kg. Marta Tort took the gold medal where her rival for an Olympic spot Laia Talarn this time finished seventh. The fourth Algerian medal was for Sonia Asselah, she lost the final +78kg against Maryna Slutskaya (BLR). Monica Sagna of Senegal won bronze.
