Small Italian judoka Felice Mariani became 1976 Olympic bronze medallist. he captured the European title three times in a row (1978-1980). Later he became a successful and remarkable coach with many medals in the women's division. After retirement, he led Giulia Quintavalle to a sensational Olympic gold medal in the -57kg class at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Mariani was inducted into the IJF Hall of Fame in 2018.
