Ilyasov and Gviniashvili dominant leaders at Junior World Rank
Nine of the 16 World Ranking leaders kept their leading position after the World Junior Championships. Eleven from Europe, four from Brazil and one from Asia, Kazachstan in fact. Despite the fabulous World Championships of Japan none of the youngster became World ranking leader, mainly because usually they don’t appear at Continental Cups where points can be achieved.
Brazil is the nation with the most leaders, four in total. France, Hungary and Russia follow with two leaders. Niyaz Ilyasov (RUS) and Beka Gviniashvili (GEO) are the most dominant leaders of the category with 1000 or more World Ranking points.
Fifty percent of the male World Leaders captured the number one position after the World Junior Championships
Magzhan Shamshadin is the new comer from Kazachstan who captured the #1 position U55. Walide Khyar was already at number one U60kg and with his bronze in Abu Dhabi he kept the lead. Brazilian Daniel Cargnin and Lincoln Neves are still leaders U66kg and U73kg for Brazil. Neves won bronze last weekend U73kg.
Dutchman Frank De Wit is one of the most dominant World ranking leaders with almost 1000 points. He added the world title to his European title and is unrivaled in this competitive category. He passed Rafael Macedo of Brazil.
What more to say about Georgian phenomenon Beka Gviniashvili who won all possible titles in his junior period and with his second world title, his birthday and the cheers he said goodbye to his period as a junior, leading as number one.
Russian Niyaz Ilyasov improved his silver medal last year to gold this time which helped him to the leading position U100kg. Brazilian Leonardo Goncalves follows him.
Also Russian Tamerlan Bashaev is leader, in the heavyweight category. Former leader from Russia Ruslan Shakhbazov is now second.
