In the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam final for men U90kg, both judoka delivered a serious and enjoyable contest. In the end, is Mansur Lorsanov who produced the right effort at the right moment with a massive tsuri-goshi for ippon. Gold medal for Mansur Lorsanov.

Already third nation behind the UAE and France before this third day of competition, the Netherlands had high hopes of a medal by Jesper Smink (NED), ranked only 62nd in the ranking list, but author of a very good start to the competition. The Dutchman managed to qualify for the final, but had to deal with silver.

Much was expected of the last winner of the Zagreb Grand Prix, Peter Safrany (HUN) who started his day well by beating Islam Sogenov (SRB), but he fell in the next round against Nurbek Murtozoev (UZB), who himself could not follow up a victory against Mansur Lorsanov (IJF) to reach the final. It was therefore the latter who joined Jesper Smink to designate the winner of the tournament.

The first bronze medal went to the winner of the match between Giovani Ferreira (BRA) and Nurbek Murtozoev (UZB). With a nice action reaction Ferreira was close to score first, but the initial waza-ari was logically canceled as the landing was missing. Time for golden score. After a couple of penalties were distributed, it is again Ferreira who performed a seoi-otoshi, which this time was given a waza-ari score to win the bronze medal.

Having missed the final, there was still a good chance of a medal for Peter Safrany (HUN) who faced Murad Fatiyev (AZE) in the second match for the bronze medal. Unfortunately for the young Hungarian judoka, Fatiyev was too strong today. Incapable to put his hands properly on the judogi of his opponent who overpowered him, Safrany was thrown for waza-ari with a kata-guruma a few seconds before the end of normal time. Bronze medal for Murad Fatiyev.
