The 2024 Junior European Cup in Skopje was a resounding success, marking a significant milestone for both the competitors and the host nation, North Macedonia. The event brought together 252 athletes from 26 countries, creating a vibrant and competitive atmosphere that highlighted the future stars of European judo. Over two days of intense competition, Georgia emerged as the top-performing nation, securing an impressive total of 23 medals. Serbia followed closely with 17 medals, while Croatia claimed third place with a total of 8 medals.

The event's first day set a high standard, featuring seven categories. The competition was fierce, with six different countries claiming first-place finishes across these categories, showcasing the diversity and high level of talent present at the tournament. Georgia led the medal tally with nine medals, including one gold, one silver, and four bronze. Croatia followed with five medals, demonstrating their growing strength in judo. A particularly memorable moment was the bronze medal earned by Borjana Pop Atanasova in the women’s +78kg category, bringing pride to the host nation, North Macedonia.

As the event concluded on Sunday, it was clear that the Skopje Junior European Cup 2024 was more than just a tournament—it was a celebration of the sport and a step forward for North Macedonia, which is set to host the Cadet European Championship in 2025. The successful organization of this event positions the country as an emerging hub for judo in the region.

Most of the participating teams will join the international training camp that traditionally follows these tournaments. This camp will provide an invaluable opportunity for athletes to learn from each other, refine their techniques, and prepare for future competitions. The Skopje Junior European Cup has not only highlighted the talents of young judokas but also set the stage for the continued growth and development of judo across Europe.
