Beslan Mudranov is the new European Champion. The Russian took the title in the men’s U60kg final against 2013 Champion Amiran Papinashvili and Mudranov regained his title of 2012. None of the athletes scored in regular time and it was the Georgian who received the decisive penalty.

For Mudranov this European title is a nice bonus but his real focus is the World Championships in Russia for his home crowd. Mudranov defeated Orkhan Safarov in the semi final and reached the last four via veteran Lupo Paischer who is aiming for his fourth Olympic Games in 2016. Mudranov defeated Jeroen Mooren this time in a revange match in the first round and proceeded via Pavel Petrikov.

The bronze was for Ilgar Mushkiyev who was dissapointed anyway. Also Hovhannes Davtyan grabbed bronze for his country Armenia, so a full former Soviet podium, which says enough about judo in that region.
