Sarah Asahina of Japan is on track for her second world title. Last year she won the World Open title in Marrakech and she was runner-up at the World Championships in Budapest behind Yu Song. This time she is more stable and has all the cards in hands to win the world title.

The Japanese will face Larisa Ceric (BIH) in the semi final who won her pool with Velensek, Tarasova and Kindzerska.

Cuban Idalys Ortiz is the favourite in the semi final against Brazilian Maria Suelen Altheman to reach the final. The double world champion in 2013 and 2014 won six world championships medals and is the most experienced in the field. Ortiz was able to win her first contest against world number one Kim Kim-Jeong (KOR) and moved on passing the stations Wang (CHN) and Maranic (CRO). The Croatian lost the quarter final against Ortiz and had an extreme match against Kalanina in her second match taking all her energy away.

Ortiz will now fight Altheman and both have met twelve times, all twelve times won by Ortiz. Larisa Ceric will face Asahina, a repetition of the World Open final. Asahina a has 3-0 record against Ceric. In the repechage Ivana Maranic will fight the tall Sarah Adlington who won against former world number one Maryna Slutskaya by ippon. Iryna Kindzerska will fight against Kayra Sayit of Turkey.
