Stephanie Inglis has returned home to Scotland. Inglis got injured in a motorbike crash when she was pulled from a motorcycle taxi in Vietnam when her skirt became caught in a wheel on May 12. The judoka, who won silver at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, was originally given a 1% chance of survival but her condition has since improved.

She emerged from an induced coma last week and was flown to Edinburgh Airport from Bangkok on Monday afternoon. Her journey included stops in India, Georgia and Austria.

A family friend said Stephanie smiled when her parents told her she would be going home.

The sports star had been on her way to work teaching English in Ha Long when the accident happened.

Thousands of supporters donated more than 300,000 Brotish pounds to pay her medical care after it emerged that her travel insurance would not cover her bills. Without the donations she likely wouldn’t have survived the limited care. The donations have helped to fund her treatment, her transfer to hospital in Bangkok and her journey back to Scotland.

Inglis was transferred to Edinburgh Western General to a Specialist unit.
