Indian double Judo Olympian Narinder Singh commits suicide

Two times Olympian from India Narinder Singh, 44, has committed suicide. His wife, Sunit Thakur, also a former judoka, found her husband hanging at their residence in Jalandhar's Punjab Armed Police complex on Friday night.
Singh was under depression since his suspension in 2013 after he was booked for an attempt to murder in Delhi. Singh, who was cremated immediately on Saturday, had the distinction of being the only judo player to have represented India twice at Olympics in 1992 (Barcelona) and 1996 (Atlanta). He was suspended in October 2013 after he shot at a youth after an altercation over a minor issue while he was posted at Delhi's Punjab Bhawan. Sources said Singh was depressed as he was not reinstated even as some top cops facing criminal cases occupy key posts.
Narender Singh won the Commonwealth Championships in 1998 in Edinburgh and 2006 in Vacoas Mauritius. Singh fought in the category U60 and fought judoka such as Vice World Champion Cedric Taymans (BEL), double world medallist Natik Bagirov and Olympic medallist from Mongolia Dorjpalam Narmandakh.
